Ecological education and other activities

Ecological education and other activities

I think about ecological education as a necessity for a normal society. I am well connected with the schools from Sighisoara, doing ecological education with the pupils. I mention that all these activities are not paid, I do them voluntarily (i.e. for me:)).

For three years (2000-2003), I worked voluntarily at the Interethnic Educational Center for Youth in Sighişoara, supervising an ecology group.

Collaborator of a local radio, Radio Son, Sighişoara (2002-2003).

I have a number of popularization articles in different journals and editorials from Sighişoara and Mureş County regarding ecology, biodiversity and education.

What we are doing?
Ecological research with kids and fieldtrips in the surroundings of Sighisoara.
     - estimating the sizes of insect populations, counting woodpecker hollows, wetlands, birds etc etc. Yearly around 25 kids are involved effectively in these activities.
    - walking tours in the nature: with up to 100 kids every year.
    - Yearly I supervise and prepare  1-2  highschool pupils for national and international conferences in biology (there are around 15 until now, from 2003). Moreower, I "move" around 150 kids in the natural areas surrounding Sighisoara, every year.

About these informations you can find a report (for 2007) in the  "Breite Reserve" section, with many pictures.

In my free time, I accompanied various groups of visitors from the UK, Germany, Scotland, Belgium, and Hungary (etc.) on walking tours around the Saxon villages and on Breite, providing in depth information about the biodiversity and landscape of the area. My most prominent visitor was HRH Prince of Wales, together with Patrick Holden, head of the Soil Association. Moreover I had the opportunity to have very constructive “walks” in this area with Dr. George Peterken and Dr. Brian Davies (editors of the journal Biological Conservation) and Dr. Dadislav Miko (Director in the European Commission, DG Environment, Natural Resources Protection and Biodiversity).
