The North-Western Journal of Zoology
In the folowing you can read my version for the apparition / history of the North Western Journal of Zoology

Somtime in the autumn of 2004 István Sas, the editor in chief of the Journal asked me if I would be avaiable to be a member of the editorial board of a planned new zoology journal for Romania. The answer was yes. Shortly after its apparition the Journal was indexed in the "C" category by CNCSIS.

Now, after three years of its apparition, the journal is covered by ISI and received the highest scientific recognition of the CNCSIS Romania - the category "A". We hope that we will be able to manage it to go ahead in this direction.

Everybody in our team recognize the following fact: the journal would be never as it is now if
István would sleep at 10 instead of > 12 every night!

Due to the increased severity of the editorial board and the asked reviewers, the journal rejected an increasing number of manuscripts. At this point I would like to apologize from the rejected and potential rejection candidates: there is nothing personal in this. We just want high quality papers in our journal. A paper submission is like a nice game or why not, a project psoposal. The reviewers will referee it and if they consider that the ms can be published we will do it with pleasure, if not, the life is beautiful, keep your head up and go ahead! The problems that we have faced as editors were because many authors imply their personal feelings in all these processes and take really seriously every rejection.

I personally have a lot of rejections from different journals and I must recognize that these rejections had crucial (and positive) importance in my scientific "career". To use a comparison: a strong rejection has a similar benefical effect on your scientific thinking as the predators have on the prey population. It help you to "select" the wrong ways of approach and increase your efficiency. You can learn how the "predator" (i.e. your reviewer) think, what is his strategy what are his arguments. More strong the comments are...more large are the benefits for you. Thus, a rejection can be even a favor for you: a way to learn science without fee!

If you have manuscripts on the ecology of vertebrates,  landscape ecology or different population ecological aspects, I would be very grateful to manage your paper as editor. However, as it is written in the journal`s home page, the acceptance of your manuscript will depend on the reviewers suggestions...
